Misk Art Institute’s Masaha Residency program began in 2021 with the aim of supporting artistic development and practice through a research-based approach.

Post-Internet State is the culmination of the research and creative development of the seventh cycle of Masaha Residency. This cycle brings together a diverse group of 12 artists whose practices interrogate, reflect, and expand upon the ways digital technologies and online cultures condition our world. The term “post-internet” does not signify the end of the internet, but instead points to the state in which the digital realm is seamlessly integrated into our daily lives and present day.

Post-Internet State is an exploration of the profound societal transformations that have emerged from the internet's ubiquitous presence. Over the course of 12 weeks, several critical themes have emerged from the residents’ research and questioning.

A shared point of departure for many was examining perceptions of identity, behavior, and reality. A collective sense of apprehension emerged through the residents’ exploration, responding to the pervasive questions of how the internet influences our behaviors, critical thought, beliefs, and memories, such as “What would happen if we disconnected from our phones and paid greater attention to the materials, plants, and people around us?”

This showcase invites you to uncover new perspectives on our complex relationship with the digital realm and imagine the future of our evolving relationship with the internet.
